Wow! I didn't realize I've seen so many movies about single moms. And they are all great ones! (At least those that I have seen) I especially love Terms of Endearment, Mermaids, and Parenthood. Fantastic list! Happy 13.

"Parenthood" and "Chocolat" are the only movies on this list that I have seen in their entirety. Since I do like Johnny Depp's work, I'll probably eventually get around to seeing "Finding Neverland" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

I never really thought of them like that. I mean... as "single moms" versus ... I don't know. Guess I took the character for who she was and didn't think about marriage or what-have-you.

You'll note that single moms fare a LOT better in books and movies than stepmoms do!

Great list!! So many that I enjoy -- I also liked "The Good Mother" -- I don't know if you saw that one or not with Diane Keaton and Liam Neeson. I actually blogged about that movie several months ago. I don't think I could pick a favorite from your list tho -- I enjoyed them all!
great list!

Why have I never thought of Little Women in these terms? Terms of Endearment is a good example of a single parent - ! What a fabulous list of movies.

I loved Finding Neverland. I balled so hard in that one. And Mermaids was a lot of fun too. Great list.

Joely Sue Burkhart said...

Interesting--I haven't seen very many of these. Happy TT and thanks for visiting mine!

Great idea for a list. There are quite a few, really. If you include single fathers, you could add the entire Disney pantheon.

I love all these moves, though I haven't seen Chocolat. =)

Finding Neverland is one of my favorite movies of all time!

I only have not seen Tumbleweeds and Chocolat, but the rest I have.

I've seen a few of these, but my definite favorite was "Finding Neverland." (It probably helped that it was released not long after we staged a production of "Peter Pan"...)

Happy TT!

Who was a single mom in Little Women?

I was just commenting to another TT'er that I've never seen Terms of Endearment. I guess I'll have to go rent it now!

Gilbert Grape, Terms of Endearment, and Parenthood are three of my favorite movies! Great list! Parenthood is my favorite movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon.

April Elizabeth said...

anywhere but here and where the heart is

i all the movies you listed, although white oleander is a movie about a bad single mom

Lori's Light Extemporanea said...

Well, ok, I can see that. I guess I was thinking about the stereotypic single mom. I wish I could be half the mom as Marmee!

I saw Chocolat once and keep meaning to get the DVD off to add it to my Amazon wish list...

Deb said...

I've seen some of those, but not all. Great list! :)
