The Kingdom

My DBF Michael and I went to see The Kingdom this weekend. I was impressed with the way the movie was made. It gave you a harsh realization of what life must be like in the Middle East. It started off with a bang (literally) and did a good job of keeping up the pace. Now I can really understand, on one level, what it must be like for Americans living in those countries. Not to mention the soliders (God Bless them and their families). Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner did a great job along with the rest of the cast. I give this movie 2 thumbs up.

I hope you (or the movie) didn't mean the whole Middle East. I am living in Dubai, UAE and it is very peaceful here. We hardly ever hear of murder or gun related crimes.

There are so many Americans here and they are just fine. More than 80% of Dubai's population consists of expats from the USA/Europe/Australia..everywhere and they swear they feel safer than their home country. I do feel safe here too.

Thank you for the clarification. That movie did paint a very scary picture of Saudi Arabia. I guess you just assume its like that everywhere. What a horrible way to live. Im glad that there is actually peace in some places:)

I know, Saudi Arabia is a scary place, especially for women. Lots of oppression. Here in Dubai, women work, drive, do things as men. They can even wear bikinis on the beach though this is also an Islamic country!

Saudi Arabia is a savage, corrupt Islamic monarchy without legal protection for freedom of religion...and-by law--ALL citizens must be muslim..The Saudis don't perform manual labor and employ many foreign workers. They are justified in either paying them or beating them to death--and if these foreign workers commit armed robbery because they have not been paid for working...the penalty is death..with the added bonus of public display of the corpses..learn more here..

I think our state department says it best with the current travel advisory
"Due to concerns about the possibility of additional terrorist activity directed against American citizens and interests, the Department of State continues to warn U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia."
